We care about your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what we do (and don’t do) with it. We’ve kept it readable on purpose.
What we collect
When you use Dig For Liberty, we may collect:
- Account information — name, email, and password when you create an account or sign in.
- Comments — what you post in comment threads, plus your name and email as displayed or stored.
- Payment information — membership and donation transactions are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card number; Stripe handles that.
- Saved articles — if you use “Save Article,” we store that list so you can see it when you’re logged in.
- Newsletter signup — if you sign up for The Mercer Report or another mailing list, we use your email to send you those messages. We may use a third-party provider for that; we’ll name them when the feature is active.
- Usage and analytics — we use tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and Jetpack to understand how the site is used (e.g., pages visited, general traffic). We may also use an SEO or site-optimization tool. These services may set cookies or similar technologies.
- Images you upload in comments — if you attach an image to a comment, it is stored via Cloudinary so we can display it. We don’t use it for anything else.
Why we collect it
To run the site: to create and manage your account, show your comments, process payments, honor your saved-article list, send newsletters if you opted in, and improve the site’s performance and content. We don’t sell your data — we’re not that kind of operation.
Who we share it with
We work with service providers who need access to do their job: Stripe (payments), Google (analytics and search), Jetpack (site features and stats), Cloudinary (comment images), and our hosting provider. They process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms. We may use other providers for hosting, security, or site functionality. We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties for their marketing.
Cookies and similar tech
We use cookies and similar technologies for things like keeping you logged in, remembering preferences, and helping our analytics tools work. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works (for example, you might have to sign in again).
How long we keep data
We keep account and comment data as long as your account exists or as needed to operate the site and comply with law. Payment records are retained for accounting and legal purposes. Analytics data is typically aggregated and may be retained according to our providers’ policies.
Your choices and rights
You can update your profile, delete or edit comments where we allow it, and unsubscribe from newsletters via the link in each email. If you want to delete your account or request a copy of your data, email us at contactus@digforliberty.com and we’ll handle it in a reasonable time. If you’re in a region that grants additional rights (e.g., access, deletion, portability), we’ll honor those where applicable.
Children
We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy.
